Sky Tower When you live in Auckland, it's always there. You see it constantly - not just in the CBD (city centre), but all over the city. No matter where you are, it always seems to stand out. Over the last few years I've accumulated dozens of photos of the Sky Tower, and I keep taking more. It's just too hard to stop - it always looks too good not to photograph. Interesting facts: - It's the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere, standing 328 m tall. - It was built between 1994 and 1997, finishing six months ahead of programme (my own experience confirms that's not unusual in New Zealand). - It stands on 16 piles drilled 12 m into rock, and the top moves by only about one metre in strong winds. Above the foundations is a 12 m diameter reinforced concrete shaft, followed by the pod with five public levels and 15 plant levels, topped by the steel mast. P.S.
