Sorry, misread. The different symbols are used to describe different things. [1,2,3] is an array containing 1, 2 and 3. () is used for things like functions, loops and tuples. "Hello world!" is a string (list of characters ending in \0). 'C' is simply a character. <> and / could be mathematical operators, I'm not too sure what context you are using them in.
