извините, слишком смешно чтобы не запостить [ALGTOP-L] A counter-attack Dear all, I am a retired mathematician, not dead yet. I made some contributions to higher category theory. I have followed closely the discussion on AI on the alg-top list, and I agree that mathematics is presently under attack. Do I need to remind you that mathematicians are not powerless? Mathematics is knowledge, and knowledge is power! A possible line of defense is to counter-attack. The first things would be to gain a bit of power by developing a good mathematical theory of artificial intelligence, especially of LLM. I admit my ignorance of the matter, although I tried to learn it by reading some literature, I have failed miserably, possibly because I am old and lazy, or because the literature on the technology under LLM is largely written by and for engineers. Frankly, I cannot believe that this technology is so complex that it cannot be fitted in a nice readable book using appropriate mathematical abstractions. If there is such a book, please let me know! Otherwise, I hope a generous and competent mathematician will write one; it will be a great service to our community! I dared to predict that once the technology under LLM is mastered by a fair number of mathematicians, it wont take long before they produce ideas for AI that are far better than those currently obtained from a purely engineering approach. And there is nothing wrong in using an AI model in the public domain to discover and to test such ideas. Our contributions to AI will give us some power in the industry, and that power will grow since mathematicians are very creative! Eventually, the industry will depend entirely on our mathematical theories! I hope I am not just dreaming. André Joyal
