Brother/Sister, I am going to give you the raw truth because I walked this path and I am still bleeding from it. I am that guy. I dropped out in 2023. I had a 3.94 GPA. I watched the same TikTok and YouTube videos you're watching—the ones showing billionaires who dropped out, the Forex traders buying yachts, the 'school is a scam' gurus.
I believed it. I quit university with a 'big dream.' I tried to start a business and go abroad for 3 full years (2023–2026). Do you know what happened? My family turned their back on me. I had zero financial support to start anything. I begged for help and got nothing. I watched my friends who stayed in university graduate, and the ones who went abroad become millionaires—while I was stuck, depressed, and broke.
I didn't become a millionaire. I became a cautionary tale.
Now, I am 26 years old, back in ASTU as a freshman, starting from scratch, while my 2022 peers are graduating this month. I lost 3 years of my life chasing a fantasy that never existed.
Here is what those YouTube gurus don't tell you:
· They don't tell you that Bill Gates dropped out of HARVARD (not a local university) with a million-dollar business already running.
· They don't tell you that 99.9% of people who drop out end up working dead-end jobs or crying to their parents to re-enroll.
· They don't tell you that the 'rich dropouts' on TikTok are selling you a course, not a lifestyle.
So before you quit, ask yourself these brutal questions:
1. Do you have a concrete business plan with paying customers right now?
2. Do you have 1 million Birr in capital to start that business?
3. Do you have a family member waiting abroad to sponsor your visa and house you?
4. Do you have a skill that pays in dollars RIGHT NOW?
If you answered 'NO' to even ONE of these, you are not 'taking a risk'—you are committing financial suicide.
My advice to you? Stay in school. Take the degree. It is your SHIELD. While you study, use the university computer labs to learn practical skills (like Python, coding, or digital marketing). Graduate with a degree AND a skill. That makes you unstoppable.
I am back in university because I realized the hard way: The shortcut does not exist. The only shortcut is hard work. Do not waste 3 years like I did. I am willing to save you from my mistake if you let me. If you want to talk more, I am here. But please, don't quit. The road is dark out here.
