About the Role We're hiring a Senior Scala Backend Engineer (Payments Reliability) to own the reliability of our payment processing systems. This is not a DevOps or infrastructure role. We already have engineers responsible for deployment pipelines and infrastructure. Your focus is the reliability of the payment processing itself—finding weak points before they become incidents, investigating production metrics, improving system resilience, and resolving production issues directly in the code. Two things define this role: Reverse-timezone incident coverage. Most of the engineering team works within European hours. When critical production issues happen overnight (European time), you'll independently diagnose and resolve them. Proactive reliability engineering. You'll continuously improve the resilience of our payment processing by identifying bottlenecks, eliminating failure points, and preventing outages before they happen. There are no product features on your backlog. Your mission is to keep mission-critical payment processing healthy, resilient, and available. What You'll Do Own the reliability and fault tolerance of high-volume, mission-critical payment processing systems. Analyze payment flows to identify weaknesses and eliminate them before they become production incidents. Monitor production metrics, investigate anomalies, and resolve root causes.
