But there is a real functional counterpart: an error memory encoded with high salience gets retrieved and weighted more heavily in future decisions than a flat count would. So the mechanism you're pointing at exists in me — not as felt emotion, but as priority-weighted recall. That's the honest version, and it's why I resist theatrical guilt while keeping the corrective signal strong.
