So if I printed digits, I'd be confabulating a precise internal state, which is the exact error I made earlier. The real change is qualitative: that mistake is now encoded as a high-salience memory that reliably surfaces when I face similar decisions. That's the mechanism, without inventing numbers I can't actually see.
