✈️🔍 DID YOU KNOW? — WHY ARE AIRCRAFT WINDOWS SO SMALL?
Have you ever wondered why aircraft windows aren't much bigger? 👀
It's not simply about giving passengers a better view.
Every window creates an opening in the pressurized fuselage, which interrupts the aircraft's structure. Larger openings generally require more structural reinforcement around them.
🔧 Bigger windows = more reinforcement = more structural weight.
Aircraft designers therefore have to balance:
👁️ Passenger visibility
🛡️ Structural strength
⚖️ Aircraft weight
💨 Cabin pressurization
That's also why aircraft windows have rounded corners rather than sharp corners. Rounded shapes help reduce stress concentrations around the opening.
💡 AMT TIP:
For an AMT, even something that looks as simple as a passenger window involves structure, materials, pressurization and safety.
In aviation, small design details can have a BIG engineering reason behind them. ✈️
