Match the strategy to the move. Buy calls if weaker-than-expected claims trigger a bullish rally, or buy puts if stronger labor data raises expectations of tighter monetary policy and pushes stocks lower. If you expect a large move but are unsure of the direction, a long straddle or long strangle may be appropriate—provided implied volatility isn't already excessively high.
