Three Engines and No Tail — What Is Known About the J-36 and J-50
On 26 December 2024 two previously unseen combat aircraft flew over Chinese cities in daylight, filmed by anyone with a phone. One is a three-engine tailless delta from Chengdu; the other a twin-engine lambda-wing from Shenyang with wingtips that swivel. Neither has been acknowledged by any Chinese official body. Everything known about both comes from spotter photography, and by July 2026 that photography showed a fifth J-36 airframe in a third distinct configuration.
