Kurdish artist Nûdem Durak was arrested by the Turkish authorities in Şırnak while traveling to Mardin on April 22, 2015, because she sang in Kurdish, and was sentenced to 19 years and 6 months in prison.
Nûdem Durak, who is battling toxic goiter and osteoporosis, is now facing the danger of losing her voice.
Nûdem Durak’s “crime” was singing in Kurdish, her mother tongue, in her homeland of occupied Kurdistan. She has paid the price for her identity and her voice with years behind bars.
