The diagram shows how water is treated before it is supplied to people. Overall, the process has ten stages. It begins with collecting raw water and ends with supplying clean water to homes. Different chemicals and treatment methods are used to make the water safe. First, raw water passes through intake screens, which remove large waste materials. Then, pumps send the water to a mixing tank. At this stage, chemicals are added to the water. After that, the water moves to a flocculation , where small particles come together. Next, the water enters a settling basin. In this stage, heavy particles sink to the bottom and are removed. Then chlorine is added, and the water passes through a filter membrane to remove other impurities. Finally, more chemicals are added to disinfect the water. The treated water is then pumped to consumers and flows from household taps.
