The line graph compares the levels of four different sources of air pollutants in the UK between 1990 and 2005. Overall, all pollutant categories recorded downward trends, yet with varying degrees. Moreover, total air pollutants experienced the most significant fall, whereas transport remained relatively stable compared to other categories. In 1990, total air pollutants stood at around 7 million tonnes, then declined to approximately 3 million tonnes by 2005. Followed by industry, fell from about 5.5 million tonnes to 2 million tonnes over the same period. The figures for transport and households showed different trends. Transport remained unchanged throughout the period, fluctuating slightly between approximately 1 million tonnes, household pollution declined considerably, falling from around 1 million tonnes in 1990 to zero in 2005. By 2005, household emissions had become the lowest of all four sources.
