A reminder that while people in Ireland have their water restricted, data centres are allowed to guzzle millions of litres a day.
Data centres are ''air cooled'' during cooler months, but when the temperature outside increases, they have to switch over to water cooled. This let's them throw out claims that on average they don't use much water! 😉
The vast majority of data centres are located in Dublin. As the mercury rises, so does the risk for adverse effects on people, animals and plants. Staying hydrated, keeping cool, caring for animals and crops -- these are what should be prioritised. Not thirsty ai data centres and the profits of big tech CEOs.
Let us know in our stories poll if you think house pipe bans should be enforced on data centres before people ✊️
