 Slack want $50,000 dollars from HackClub in 1 week, and $200,000/yr, or they'll delete all 11 years of messages history. Summary Despite an 11 year partnership, and HackClub (a small charity) signing a $5000/yr contract in may, slack have turned around and are demanding $50,000 this week, and then $200,000/yr on top of additional fees per new account.   Quotes Quote The Hack Club Slack is moving to a new, self-hosted chat platform - likely a customized version of Mattermost. As we rush to get something online, we will have more announcements in the coming hours and days - including how to migrate your messages.   We have emailed Salesforce asking them to work with us in a reasonable way, but they are continuing their scammy effort to extort tens of thousands by blackmailing us.   My thoughts I feel like slack are just trying to take advantage of a charity, and for no obvious reason. HackClub is a platform for kids to learn how to code (and hack), and get rewards for it. There's an event called Daydream next weekend (27th-28th September) which is a worldwide in person game-jam to teach kids how to make games, and win rewards for it. That event has been almost entirely coordinated through slack, and now slack are threatening to delete all that history within a week, just because they want more money (even though they already signed a $5000/yr contract)!?
