 Windows Server now supports NVMe natively! And Windows 11, too, but it might bluescreen. Summary On December 15th, Microsoft announced that Windows Server 2025 will now support NVMe natively. Before NVMe commands needed to be converted into SCSI commands, which caused a substantial performance hit. The new NVMe driver can be enabled via a registry key after the latest cumulative update (2510-B) has been installed.   Some people have found out that the driver can also be enabled in Windows 11. However, this can apparently lead to blue screens or other issues. Whether we will see the feature officially roll out in the near future for regular users hasn't been confirmed yet.   Quotes Quote This improvement comes from a redesigned Windows storage stack that no longer treats all storage devices as SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) devices—a method traditionally used for older, slower drives. By eliminating the need to convert NVMe commands into SCSI commands, Windows Server reduces processing overhead and latency. Additionally, the whole I/O processing workflow is redesigned for extreme performance.       My thoughts Hell yeah! I didn't even know that was still a thing. And seemingly it has quite a substantial performance impact!
