PRP and growth hormone fail to restore estrous cycles in aging rats On 26 August 2026 authors posted a preprint describing experiments on 40‑week‑old female rats. They administered PRP from young or old donors as a single ovarian injection, or gave growth hormone daily for 56 days, while controls received a sham saline injection. Two groups received PRP (young‑donor or old‑donor), a third group received growth hormone, and the control group underwent the same procedure with buffer solution. Over the final eight days of the experiment, only 1 of 14 control rats, 1 of 12 after young‑donor PRP, and 0 of 12 after old‑donor PRP or 0 of 8 after growth hormone exhibited a full estrous cycle; ovarian weight, follicle counts, and blood hormone levels did not improve together. Young‑donor PRP increased AMH staining in growing follicles, but follicle numbers and hormone levels remained unchanged. The authors caution that partial or local ovarian changes cannot be equated with genuine functional recovery. In a separate study, suppression of the inflammatory protein IL‑11 reduced ovarian fibrosis and improved fertility in old rodents, underscoring that age‑related ovarian decline affects follicles, their surrounding cells, and hormonal rhythm, so restoring reproductive function requires coordinated improvement across all these levels. 🔗 Read original →
