Just over one hundred years ago, in 1924, Eugene Debs, the perennial Socialist Party Candidate for President, decided not to run again, and instead backed Robert LaFollette, Sr., the former Republican Senator from Wisconsin, who was running for President as the Candidate for the Progressive Party of Wisconsin.
Robert LaFollette, Sr., along with the elder Lindbergh ( Charles Augustus Lindbergh, Sr.,) had been expelled from the Republican Party in 1917 for the “sin” of vehemently opposing America’s entry into World War One.
My point is this : radical leftists and “Socialists” have been known to bloc with radical & dissident “Republicans” - even though the latter may be considered “cultural conservatives.” It has all happened before. It is an American Tradition .
