Friþ (Frith)
Think of the Continental Hotel in John Wick. Step through those doors, and the wars outside don't matter. The rules hold. Weapons stay sheathed. Strife is held at bay. There’s room to talk. That's friþ.
When you say frithstead, you're naming exactly that: a place where the law of peace is absolute, and every person inside it agrees to uphold it.
Old English friþ → Modern English frith. We kept the word, but narrowed the concept. Frithstead disappeared from our language when we stopped needing a word for a bounded place of peace and frith when our relationships began to fray, but we have these words and concepts back now.
Recognize a friþstede (frithstead) when you're standing in one. Recognize Friþ, if you have one, in a trusted and loyal relationship.
These places and relationships still exist; we just don't use these names anymore. Consider them revived. Consider us taking back that which has been lost.
