Decommissioned wind turbines from the Netherlands will be sent to Ukraine instead of the scrapyard: “Instead of ending up in a scrapyard, numerous old wind turbines are being shipped to Ukraine. There, they are expected to generate environmentally friendly electricity,” reports the newspaper De Telegraaf. Europe is trying to find an environmentally friendly solution for disposing of 10,000 wind turbines that have reached the end of their service life. The structures are made of multilayer composite materials and are virtually impossible to recycle—it would cost a fortune and take many years.
