Across Europe, freedom of expression is under growing pressure.
Political parties face bans, citizens’ initiatives are blocked, and “European values” are increasingly used to decide which opinions are acceptable.
But Europe was built on the opposite principle: freedom of thought, open debate and the clash of ideas.
Freedom means nothing if it applies only to opinions we agree with.
Dissent must be answered with arguments, not censorship.
Europe is strongest when ideas are free.
