🏙️ The Electric Discharge Frozen Inside Acrylic! ⚡
🔬 This extraordinary image comes from an experiment at the University of Maryland, USA. Researchers cooled a piece of acrylic—a transparent, electrically insulating plastic—with dry ice, then used a particle accelerator to fire high-energy electrons into it.
⚡ A large amount of electrical charge accumulated deep inside the acrylic, but no discharge occurred. Then, researchers struck the top of the piece, triggering a sudden electrical discharge. The entire event lasted just 100 nanoseconds!
💙 The discharge spread through the acrylic at nearly 1% of the speed of light, leaving behind a network of blue cracks. The white lines were formed by secondary electrical discharges.
✨ These beautiful branching patterns are known as Lichtenberg figures.
