In 2021, López Obrador’s government paid 300,000 dollars to a Washington firm to warn it, before anyone else, what political and legal problems were coming its way in the United States. They dressed it up as trade and USMCA advisory. But the contract itself, in its own words, says it was to “foresee or detect possible political and legislative problems”.
