That is, an aircraft carrier is good enough against slipper-wearing goat-herders with old assault rifles. But against a peer or a near-peer enemy with long-range missiles and drones, it's useless. Furthermore, we can go even further and look at the experience of World War II. From the Americans sinking Japanese aircraft carriers at Midway and in several other battles, to the German Bismarck-class battleships. Perhaps the Tirpitz is the most exemplary example. The ship was large, fearsome, and powerfully armed. But so expensive that its loss would have been extremely painful to Germany. Therefore, after the Germans lost its sister ship, the Bismarck, it sat useless in the Norwegian fjords for almost the entire war, hiding from Allied aircraft, torpedo bombers, and submarines.
