So glad you posted this. I showed a friend who is a Masters graduate and they were stunned. They have seen Michelangelo, I showed them a photo of Strazzas "Veiled Virgin" they were truly stunned. His was a later work but there are earlier examples of veiled marble with true translucence. I have always found sculpture remarkable for its fine lines if error, painting, one always presumes can be rectified by redoing, that doesn't work when carving from a block of marble. I look forward to seeing more informed responses then my own.
