It was like 15 years ago. Recently divorced hedge fund manager indicted on multiple counts of fraud / embezzlement "died" in sightseeing airplane crash along with pilot on clear day while his daughter and her friend (both unaccompanied minors traveling overseas for the first time) survived with minor injuries. Media reporting was filed at regional desk in completely different country. Treatment for the injuries was irrational: girl with broken arm was hauled out of the jungle on a stretcher, which took eight hours, as example, then transported by ambulance to international airfield, where they were flown out. Nobody questioned why they passed multiple hospitals without stopping, or why a helicopter was not dispatched, etc. It was a poorly constructed bit of theater for the U.S. domestic market. It works because critical thinking is rare. Start looking at headlines like plot devices for pulp fiction novels and it may start to make sense. People do not know who you are; they take you at face value. The world takes everything at face value. Dig and you can find gold, or you can find rot. Nobody can dig for you.
