Leon county, Texas - 25-year-old Payton Dean Carroll, of Barry, Texas, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division on a charge of Theft of Property between $150,000 and $300,000. He purchased dozens of head of cattle with hot checks! Authorities began their investigation on July 17, 2026, after receiving a report that an individual had purchased 77 head of cattle from Buffalo Livestock Marketing, Inc. using non-sufficient funds (NSF) checks. The total value of the hot checks used in the purchase came to $159,604.03, officials said.
