•You are not to think you are smarter than we are.
•You are not to imagine yourself better than we are.
•You are not to think you know more than we do.
•You are not to think you are more important than we are.
•You are not to think you are good at anything.

In his book Manipulism and the Weapon of Guilt: Collectivism Exposed, Danish author and anti-collectivism activist Mikkel Clair Nissen characterizes Janteloven (the Law of Jante) as a tool of pathological collectivism and an oppressive psychological mind game. He argues that it enforces conformity, stifles individual achievement, and creates an insecure culture where citizens police and intimidate one another to defend the socialist state.
