Schrödinger’s cat wasn’t meant to explain quantum mechanics. It was meant to expose a problem in it. Schrödinger would probably be amused and maybe annoyed that it became one of quantum mechanics’ most famous teaching tools. He wasn’t saying, ‘this is how reality works.’ He was saying, ‘look what happens if you take this interpretation seriously all the way to the macroscopic world.’ He is such a great mind and it's kinda ironic that we remember him most by taking one of his jokes seriously
