AI-Assisted Human-in-the-Loop Decision-Making for Smart Contract Risk Management in Blockchain-Based Business Systems
Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence with blockchain-based business systems has introduced transformative opportunities for automating smart contract operations while simultaneously creating novel risk vectors that challenge traditional governance frameworks. This paper presents a comprehensive framework for AI-assisted human-in-the-loop (HITL) decision-making in smart contract risk management. We address the critical tension between the efficiency gains of autonomous AI agents and the imperative for human oversight in high-stakes financial transactions. Through a systematic literature review spanning 2021–2026, we identify significant gaps in current approaches, particularly regarding the lack of standardized governance protocols for AI-agent interactions with smart contracts, the vulnerability of AI systems to adversarial attacks, and the absence of robust validation mechanisms for AI-generated transaction intents. Our proposed methodology combines multi-agent AI systems for vulnerability detection with a structured HITL validation architecture that preserves client custody and consent. Empirical evaluation demonstrates that our framework achieves 94.2% precision in risk detection while maintaining a mean decision latency of 658ms, with human oversight reducing false positives by 37.8%. The results validate that hybrid human-AI systems significantly outperform either purely automated or purely manual approaches in smart contract risk management. We conclude by proposing a governance model that balances automation efficiency with fiduciary responsibility and regulatory compliance.
