🇺🇸 The U.S. Senate has passed the first procedural vote on a bill imposing new sanctions on Russia and Iran, legislation championed by the late Senator Lindsey Graham.
The measure received the support of 86 senators.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the strong bipartisan backing marked the first step toward implementing Graham’s vision and bringing peace closer.
“It is symbolic that today, on the day we bid farewell to Senator Lindsey Graham, the Senate held a procedural vote on the sanctions bill that he worked so hard on. It was an honor to be present as the votes were counted—86 senators supported the bill. This is the first step toward implementing Lindsey’s plans and certainly a step toward peace. It is important that this tool works,” Zelenskyy said.
