AI saying PDAF on Sony mirror less camera sensors are only select pixels as official specs say around 700 PDAF points so around 1400 pixels out of the entire sensor are used for PDAF. While Canon made sensors use dual pixels this every single pixel on sensor is PDAF.
It's official Sony spec that A7 III can use PDAF only F/1.0 to F/11 if close aperture more camera switch to contrast only AF. A7 IV sensors improved PDAF tech somewhat and it works from F/1.0 to F/16 but if close aperture more it becomes contrast AF only.

In Canon according to AI PDAF works from F/1.0 to F/22 because all dual pixels tech used instead of dedicated PDAF pixels in Sony implementation.
