A coffee shop in Vancouver probably wasn't where most people expected the future of money to begin.
But in October 2013, that's where it happened. A two-way Bitcoin ATM went live at Waves Coffee House, allowing people to buy and sell Bitcoin with cash — bringing a digital asset into a place people already understood: a neighborhood coffee shop.
The machine quickly attracted attention. In its first 29 days, it processed more than CA$1 million in transactions.
What looked like a single machine was actually a glimpse of something much bigger.
Bitcoin was moving from something people read about online to something they could interact with in the real world.
More than a decade later, that journey continues.
The way we access, use, move, and manage digital assets keeps evolving — and so does the financial ecosystem being built around them.
Sometimes, adoption doesn't begin with a revolution. Sometimes, it begins with a machine in a coffee shop.
