I gained some interesting experience from working with one of the teams making Add-ons for the Marketplace, and I think it might be useful for other designers too
A lot of us download an Add-on and just make Key Art with it for practice, doing whatever we want 🎰 But when you work for a team or company, everything has to match the Add-on and Marketplace standards exactly.
For example:
The blocks you use should actually exist in that Add-on 👾
The size of mobs and blocks should match the real Minecraft scale
The image should be made so that the mobs are clearly visible, while the size ratio between all the objects is also maintained 👀
It might sound simple here, but it’s not that simple in practice
For example, if you have a very large mob in the scene, you need to frame it in a way that the mob is still clearly visible, while the other mobs don’t become too small and everything stays proportional
.
Also, the files given to the designer for making Key Art are usually prepared specifically for this purpose and aren’t the full Add-on 🧳
And finally, a few things that I think are even more important than the actual design:
Take composition, layout, and visual weight seriously. Work with proper principles, not randomly
More than anything, work on your ideas 🧠 I sent them around eight ideas for one project
No matter how good your execution is, or how much highlighting, lighting, and other details you add, if you don’t have a good idea, the final result won’t be good
I hope these experiences are useful to you ❤️🔥
