Cape Khoboy — the «fang» of Baikal 🌊 On the northern tip of Olkhon Island is Cape Khoboy — one of the most recognisable rocky shores of Baikal. Its name comes from the Buryat word «khoboy» — «fang»: the main rock really resembles a huge stone tooth jutting sharply above the water. The cape is located next to the widest section of Baikal, and in clear weather from here you can see both shores of the lake at once and Bolshoy Ushkany Island. 🌊 Khoboy also has another name — Maiden Rock. If you look at it from the water, you can see a female figure in the outline of the rock. A Buryat legend is connected with this about a petrified woman who was turned to stone out of envy. Today Khoboy is considered one of the natural and sacred sites of Olkhon. #interestingplacesofRussia ❤️From Russia with love

👧🇷🇺 Russia has created a registry of traditional games of the country's peoples Novosibirsk State Pedagogical University has officially registered the database "Games of the Peoples Living in the Territory of the Russian Federation". It currently contains more than 60 games of various peoples of Russia — from the well-known "Cossacks-Robbers" and "Hopscotch" to the Yakut "Tutum Ergiir", Altai "Bird Blind Man's Buff" and Nenets "Kheiro". 🪶 For each game, its origin, rules and a video demonstration are indicated. Many ancient pastimes can be easily adapted to modern conditions — for example, replacing traditional equipment elements with ordinary objects while preserving the rules of the game. 📚 The project is intended primarily for schools, children's camps and institutions of supplementary education. Its authors want not only to preserve traditional games, but also to make the culture of the peoples of Russia more accessible and alive — so that one can get acquainted with it not only in museums and books, but also directly through play. 👉 Registry of games: "Games of the Peoples Living in the Territory of the Russian Federation" on VKontakte #news ❤️From Russia with love

Dmitri Ivanovsky — the scientist who discovered the world of viruses 🦠 Dmitri Ivanovsky was a Russian botanist and microbiologist whose work marked the beginning of the history of modern virology. In 1892 he investigated tobacco mosaic disease and passed the sap of infected plants through a special porcelain filter that retained bacteria. But even after filtration, the liquid continued to infect healthy plants — meaning that an unknown agent existed, much smaller than bacteria. 🦠 Ivanovsky did not yet know what exactly he had discovered, as the definitive understanding of viruses took shape later. But it was precisely Ivanovsky's experiment in 1892 that became the first proof of the existence of such agents and the starting point for the development of virology. #HistoricalFigure ❤️From Russia with love

🌋 A rare «volcano within a volcano» Krenitsyn Volcano is an active stratovolcano 1,324 m high, the highest point of Onekotan Island. Its cone, with a base diameter of 3.5–4 km, stands inside Lake Koltsevoye, which fills the caldera of the ancient Tao-Rusyr volcano. Lake Koltsevoye is almost perfectly round: about 7 km in diameter and up to 369 m deep — one of the deepest lakes in Russia. Around it rise the walls of the old caldera, 540–920 m high, composed of basaltic lavas and andesitic material. Only one historical eruption is known — in 1952. Fumarolic and thermal activity is currently recorded, and the cone itself is covered with dwarf Siberian pine. #InterestingFact ❤️From Russia with love

The craft of spoon-making — why a wooden spoon was not just a utensil 🍎 Initially, the wooden spoon in Rus was part of everyday life. Soups, porridge, stew and other dishes were eaten with it. Most often, spoons were carved from soft woods — linden, aspen or birch. From this seemingly simple occupation, a real craft grew over time, in which each master had his own techniques and ways of decoration. 🍎 But a spoon could also be an ornament. In different places they were painted, covered with ornament or left with beautiful carving, and decorated spoons were used during holidays and placed on the table for guests. Especially famous were the painted Khokhloma spoons. In this connection, today a wooden spoon is perceived not only as an object of old daily life, but also as part of Russian artistic crafts and culture. #interestingfacts ❤️From Russia with love

Petroglyphs of the White Sea region — messages from the Stone Age 💐 On the shore of the White Sea, in Karelia, thousands of drawings carved into rocks by Stone Age people have been preserved. The White Sea petroglyphs appeared around 4,000 years BC. They depict hunting scenes, boats, animals, people and even footprints. In total, the White Sea part of the site contains about 3,400 images. 🏞 From the drawings one can imagine how people who inhabited northern Europe thousands of years ago lived. In 2021, the White Sea petroglyphs were together included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today it is one of the largest complexes of Neolithic rock art in Europe. #interestingplacesofRussia ❤️From Russia with love

📱 In the Novosibirsk Region, a neural-network video analytics system helped find 250 missing children in less than a year and a half. The technology operates within the «Safe City» complex: it analyses the video stream from city cameras in places with large crowds of people. Since April 2025, the search for missing children using biometrics has also been available in the region. According to the developers, the high speed of analysis allows information to be transmitted more quickly to law enforcement agencies. The system is also used to search for wanted criminals — in 2025 alone, more than 3 thousand offenders were detected with its help. Russian video analytics technologies are today used in 34 countries and more than 70 regions of Russia. #news ❤️From Russia with love

Nikolai Pirogov — the man who laid the foundations of military surgery ♥️ Nikolai Pirogov became one of the founders of military field surgery. During the Crimean War of 1853–1856, he worked in besieged Sevastopol and for the first time systematically applied the triage of the wounded: doctors had to quickly determine who needed urgent surgery and who could be treated later. This approach became the basis for organising medical care on the battlefield. 🏥 Pirogov also widely introduced plaster casts to immobilise fractures and used anaesthesia during operations. His methods made it possible in a number of cases to avoid severe operations and preserve damaged limbs. Later, the principles he developed became part of military medicine and continued to evolve in the 20th century. #HistoricalFigure ❤️From Russia with love

🇹🇬🇷🇺 From Togo with rap: African youth congratulated Putin on his birthday The branch of the People's Diplomacy Centre in Togo recorded a rap music video for Vladimir Putin's birthday. The song was created using AI tools, and the filming took place in Lomé. ℹ️ The congratulation also mentioned students from Togo who studied or are studying at Russian universities — Saratov State University of Genetics, Biotechnology and Engineering named after N. I. Vavilov and Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M. V. Lomonosov. 🥼 According to the authors, for many young Africans Russia is a place where dreams come true, and rap was chosen because Africans are «a rhythmic and dynamic people». #interestingvideos ❤️From Russia with love
