I mention hemp because of its lasting qualities.
When I was younger and stronger I met an elderly man that had a spool of hand made hemp twine that his mother and aunt had made 60 plus years prior. It was lass than an eighth of an inch in diameter. It sat in direct sunlight for over 60 yrs and my friend and I could not break it pulling like a tug o war. I’d like to mention how it was made but don’t want to clog the thread.
Another consideration for the veneer, though I would want to seal it, is aircrete. Lightweight with a high mpa ( strength)
