Police wrongfully arrested a man protesting the Labour Conference in Liverpool. A large number of people have been arrested over the past few days for apparently displaying support of a prescribed "terrorist" group. I would argue that the actual people supporting terrorist actions are inside the conference.

Manchester City’s 115 charges have loomed large over English football for years. Now, after a long and drawn-out process, the club has been found guilty of all charges relating to serious breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules, as well as the majority of charges relating to its failure to cooperate with the investigation. City of course maintain their innocence and intend to appeal. This corruption should absolutely be punished and dragged into the public eye, but let’s not pretend Manchester City are some unique rotten apple in an otherwise pure and fair game. Football has seen plenty of high-profile financial scandals. Juventus were punished over accounting irregularities surrounding player transfers, eventually receiving a ten-point deduction in Serie A and being excluded from European competition for the following season. In Scotland, Rangers’ use of EBTs became part of a much wider financial crisis that ended with the old company entering administration and liquidation. These are simply the cases that became too big to ignore. The problem runs much deeper than individual clubs. Modern football is an industry in which enormous amounts of money are concentrated in the hands of owners, investors, sponsors and broadcasters, while clubs are under constant pressure to increase revenue and remain competitive. In a capitalist system that puts profit first, there will always be companies (in this case football clubs) looking for loopholes and ways around regulations that stand between them and greater profits. Punish Manchester City where breaches have been proven. But don’t pretend that punishing one club cleans up the game. The problem isn’t just Manchester City. It is football becoming a global industry that is based around the desire for profit and finance capital has no limitations in its thirst for capital. The Class Consciousness Project

Danny Tommo (as he's known as) is a criminal who was recruited by the state to run reactionary campaigns, causing the most amount of division he can. Just like Tommy Robinson, he has no interest in the workers of this country. His only interest is lining his own pockets.

When the subject of grooming gangs comes up you'll see, on Facebook pages and the like, comments about Pakistanis/Muslims/Migrants then a response along the lines of “there are white grooming gangs too” like the recently jailed Scottish gang. Neither of these kinds of comments are helpful. I’ve even read a post “we have enough paedos without importing more” Enough paedos? One paedo is too many! One thing all these degenerate beasts have in common, apart from being equally despicable, is the boys and girls they target. They are mostly poor kids, from broken homes or the broken care system. They are vulnerable, easy targets whose abusers get away with it so long because the victims are seen as worthless by the state. Deprived communities, unemployment, drugs, selfishness and a lack of cohesion in society are conditions that allow these horrific things to happen. All things which are not just caused, but silently encouraged, by the capitalist system. If horrific crimes weren’t committed against these children, there wouldn’t be as much public outcry. There would be fewer voices saying save our kids from poverty, starvation and addiction. The sensationalism in the media, used to pitt workers against each other, and stir up racial hatred, is the reason for campaigns to save the children. If the state wasn't using this sensationalism for there own benefit there would be voices blaming them for any other kind of misery in their lives. We need to save our kids, not just from sexual exploitation, but from all exploitation that’s rife in a capitalist society. Socialism will save our kids. The Class Consciousness Project

One of the great contradictions of modern chauvinism is hearing people claim Islam is some completely alien force incompatible with “Christian countries”. The Unite the Kingdom rallies organised by Tommy Robinson call for immediate deportation of Muslims, with St George flags waved by everyone. What people don't understand is that Muslims themselves revere St George as a righteous martyr. The tales of the Quran are not against the Bible, but of the same story. The reality is that Islam did not emerge from another planet. It emerged from the same Abrahamic tradition as Christianity and Judaism. Muslims believe in Jesus, Mary, many of the prophets of the Old Testament and see Islam as the final revelation of God, not a rejection of everything that came before. A lot of people screaming about “defending Christian civilisation” know less about Christianity and Islam than a bored medieval peasant probably did. Their worldview is built more on fear, ignorance and culture war politics than history or theology. Marx called religion the "Opium of the masses". In an age where information is abundant, people are still drugged, divided and fooled. The Class Consciousness Project

Rather aptly - considering the origin of this when Rui Pinto hacked and then released the documents eventually leading to the Premier League charging Man City for vast swathes of financial corruption - the news broke via another leak, this time with David Ornstein in the Atheltic. Before we get into the wide-ranging and excellent media reaction to the guilty verdicts, it’s worth nothing that just today news has broken claiming the witness protection Pinto was receiving has been removed: “Less than two hours later, Portuguese authorities confirmed Pinto would no longer be protected as a witness. That is understood to have come as a surprise to the 37-year-old, who finds himself without a job, a home or an income. He has been living in a safe house under protection and has never disclosed his location, and it is understood he has received no visitors.” (Guardian) It’s an absolute scandal, and surely the football world can help him somehow, even if the authorities seem to have wiped their hands with him…...
