Watchlist - Carbon $SWTH
Cosmos Dex, Futures, Pepetuals, Money Market
Preamble - Terra's UST was the defacto standard of stablecoins across the Cosmos ecosystem and Terra's Anchor was the defacto standard for money markets (lending). Since Terra's collapse, the Cosmos ecosystem was relatively turned off by crypto-backed stablecoins and reverted to fiat backed, such as USDT and USDC.
Reason 1 - Last month Kujira mentioned they were going to make their own Cosmos stablecoin and overnight sentiment within Cosmos shifted from being anti-crypto-backed stablecoins to being something they were excited about. This is good news for Carbon as they have been working on their own stablecoin which is slated to be released before the end of 2022.
Reason 2 - Above, I mentioned the stablecoin, but Carbon is also building a money market (lending protocol), options and perpetuals within their ecosystem.
Reason 3 - Carbon has yet to find product market fit with their Dex & Futures platform, but they continue to keep building new products until they do. We believe that if they can get a meaningful amount of adoption of the stablecoin ($4-8m), it should be able to sufficiently jumpstart their money market to be competitive against the existing money market incumbents on Cosmos.
Quick stats of how far along these new features are, data provided by
https://carbon.network/roadmap
-Pepetuals, 90%
-Money Market, 70%
-Stablecoin, 40%
-Options, 5%
Cons - This team prior to pivoting off of Neo 2 years ago, had a mediocore atomic dex, that never really gained any meaningful usage and after the pivot to being a Cosmos chain still doesnt today. From my research, the general Cosmos community has no idea that Carbon exists, so its going to be tough to get Carbon in front of the community and convince them to use one or more of the Carbon products within its ecosystem.
