Thorsten Frei, leader of the CDU/CSU group in the Bundestag, called the result a turning point for Germany and said conservatives must ask why they are no longer reaching voters.
CDU Secretary-General Franziska Hoppermann rejected any debate over Chancellor Merz's future and again ruled out cooperation with either the AfD or The Left.
Social Democratic Party co-leader Lars Klingbeil called the vote a signal to Berlin and said the result should prompt the federal government to reflect on its policies.
Co-leader Bärbel Bas said the result is frightening many people, while Green co-chair Felix Banaszak described the AfD surge as dramatic.
The Left's Heidi Reichinnek branded the result catastrophic, blaming federal government policies for creating fertile ground for the far right.
But the CDU's refusal to cooperate with The Left makes constructing an anti-AfD majority harder.
BSW founder Sahra Wagenknecht declared the cordon sanitaire policy a failure in a post on X, warning another coalition built purely to exclude the AfD would be an affront to voters.
The AfD, meanwhile, claimed a mandate to govern. Co-leader Alice Weidel hailed a historic result, while fellow co-leader Tino Chrupalla declared that Ulrich Siegmund will be our new minister-president, referring to the party's lead candidate in Saxony-Anhalt.
Chrupalla then turned Merz's own rhetoric back on him, recalling the chancellor's promise that his government would be so good it would cut the AfD in half, and said the AfD had cut the CDU in half.

Dear Americans:
I don't know how many of you are real people, how many are bots or how many are actually from other nations (hoping to actually see the US die on LiveStream) but I do know some of you are very curious about the Russian mind and what makes them tick.

In April I bought 5 years of oil changes for my truck including 10 oil filters, 6 air filters, 3 fuel filters. I also caught RainX washer fluid on sale and bought 5 gallons for $20.
Now Costco is rationing oil AND tracking it on your Costco Card.
I stocked up because I figured I have to drive to work, the truck is one of the tools in fact. Maybe I will be able to afford fuel...

About AI and the end of the world
Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot from AI creators who are bemoaning humanity’s haste. They’ve been warning us that AI is dangerous, unpredictable, and developing too fast according to laws we don’t quite fathom. It’s time, they say, to slow down and make a pause before we feel really sorry when our intelligent brother goes berserk.
Are these fears real? Especially given that many smarty-pants like Musk and others have been saying this for a long time. The answer is simple: they’re real. By the way, I myself wrote about it in a recent article for the Expert magazine.
But… the creators of various sorts of generative AI are not being sincere. It’s not you and I or Homo sapiens as a whole that they fear for. They’re not afraid that an unhinged AI, drunk on its power, will destroy humankind. This kind of outcome is not all that likely. What’s much more realistic is a scenario where software that uses advanced AI for running a major production facility or a transport hub will cause severe damage. Such as allowing planes to collide in midair or destroying a nuclear power plant. And then there will be someone coming for the creators of generative AI – to slap them with multibillion lawsuits or simply to knock their (human) brains out.
What’s to be done then? The most obvious solution would be for countries to agree on general principles of AI regulation. That would give us all at least some chance of keeping AI development under control. But it won’t happen due to corporate greed and insatiable human passion.
So our only hope is to throw ourselves at the mercy of the winner and count on the humanism that AI, our beloved man-made prodigy, might show us. It doesn’t have overt emotions yet, but we don’t know what this great superintelligence will be like. Let’s hope it will spare its parents…

Remember, A US President can veto a law passed by congress BUT Congress can force the issue and overrule his veto. The President is a CEO that reports to a board of directors who report to shareholders.
