Yemen's government says it has launched a "strategic offensive" to retake Sanaa from the Houthis and claims it captured the Red Sea city of Mocha on Monday. The Houthis deny losing the coast. Neither side's claims have been independently confirmed. An assistant defense minister said phase one targets Mocha and Bab el Mandeb, the strait at the southern entrance to the Red Sea. Yemeni government forces say they took Mocha with air support, captured Houthi fighters, took Wahijah to the south, and hold Dhubab airport. Witnesses said Houthi fighters left some positions near Mocha. The Houthis fired two missiles at the strait area. Near Taiz, the Houthis say they drove government forces out of two districts and now hold more than 2,000 square kilometers of the province. The government says more than 50 Houthi vehicles pulled back from positions west of the city. Houthi officials said their strikes will become "more searing and more expansive," and warned that Saudi airspace is unsafe for civilian flights except over Mecca and Medina. To that end, flights inbound to Riyadh have been disrupted several times today. Source: https://x.com/leventkemaI/status/2107147449055711357?s=20

The U.S. moved 12 U.S. Air Force B-1B "Lancer" strategic bombers out of RAF Fairford in England on Sunday over concerns about a possible drone attack ordered by Iran's Revolutionary Guard, according to U.S. and European officials briefed on the matter, speaking to The Wall Street Journal. The officials said it was part of a broader plot to hit the aircraft and kill personnel at the base, including American pilots. The Pentagon declined to comment on the plot but confirmed all American bombers at the base have returned to the U.S. Vice President Vance said they were moved "out of an abundance of caution trying to protect our guys." U.K. officials caution there is no evidence Iran could carry out such an elaborate operation against Fairford, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it isn't unusual for military aircraft to rotate around the world. Six men arrested in connection with the case, including a dual U.K.-Iranian citizen, were released on bail. None have been charged. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) says it redirected the 130th commercial vessel today while enforcing the naval blockade of Iranian ports, which it says remains fully in effect. CENTCOM says it resumed the blockade July 14 at the direction of President Donald J. Trump. It says U.S. forces have disabled three ships that refused to comply, and that over the past 12 weeks it has destroyed 13 commercial vessels that were violating the blockade or were part of the Revolutionary Guard's "multibillion dollar shadow network." CENTCOM also says more than 70 humanitarian aid ships have been allowed through. Admiral Brad Cooper, CENTCOM commander, said U.S. forces "will swiftly act against any vessels trying to run the blockade." The Wall Street Journal reported Sept. 25 that officials said the U.S. has no intention of lifting it. During the first naval blockade of Iran from April 13 to June 18th, CENTCOM redirected at least 140 compliant vessels, disabled at least 9 and allowed at least 50 ships to pass on humanitarian grounds.

President Donald Trump has approved Secretary of War Pete Hegseth's recommendation that former U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan be executed by Army firing squad. Hasan was convicted in the 2009 shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, that killed 13 people and wounded 32. It would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961. The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place. Army planning under Operation Resolute Justice calls for moving Hasan from the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the federal execution facility at Federal Correctional Center Terre Haute in Indiana. Army policy requires the execution to occur no sooner than 60 days and no later than 150 days after presidential approval.

Former German Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND) chief, August Hanning, who served as the head of Germany’s foreign intelligence service from 1998-2005, was arrested this morning on suspicion of treason. Per reports, including those from the Financial Times, Hanning is accused of collating and transferring, for a fee, thousands of classified documents to a foreign power. Another BND officer, who is still currently serving in the intelligence agency, known as “Manfred D” was also arrested for participating. Even after Hanning left, the transfers continued, as per a statement from the Federal Prosecutor “Both suspects are believed to have agreed, in the spring of 2010, to have Manfred D continuously transmit valuable intelligence from the Federal Intelligence Service to Hanning in exchange for remuneration.”

Traders at Polymarket.com now give Marine Le Pen a 43% chance of winning France's next presidential election, well ahead of former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe at 18% and Cannes Mayor David Lisnard at 13%. Over the past month, Le Pen has climbed from about 35% to a peak near 45%, Philippe has fallen from roughly 30%, and Lisnard has surged from low single digits. The market has seen more than $145 million in volume. The shift comes amid a third week of student protests over school conditions that have turned violent. France's Justice Ministry says 5,060 people have been detained, 87% of them minors. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu told lawmakers Tuesday that 215 students and 85 education staff have been injured, the most education staff injured in decades. About 590 schools have been disrupted. Le Pen can run in spring 2027 after an appeals court in July upheld her embezzlement conviction but lifted the ban on her candidacy. A final appeal is pending.

A medical officer's plan to evacuate wounded soldiers at Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, was never briefed or put in place after she was sent to Jordan, according to an Associated Press investigation of the March 1st Iranian drone strike that killed six U.S. soldiers and wounded dozens in the opening day of Operation Epic Fury. AP reports the officer had prepared an evacuation plan that included collection points for moving the wounded. She was among a group sent to Jordan, and the plan was never implemented. Seven soldiers, including senior officers stationed at the port, told the AP the unit went into the war without a broad plan for a mass casualty event. After the strike, soldiers whose phones still worked used Google to find the nearest medical facilities, AP reports. One group of wounded was treated at a Kuwaiti hospital for about 48 hours, then stayed in residential homes in Kuwait for another week because Iranian missiles and drones made evacuation flights risky. They eventually flew to Germany on a cargo plane. Source: https://apnews.com/article/iran-war-port-shuaiba-attack-soldiers-29f34587c6361261f6e803aff6791e8f?taid=6ac39453d67e050001c6e1ea

A large column of dark black smoke is rising from a fire near the Port of Sochi, Russia, after an apparent explosion. The cause and what exactly exploded have not been confirmed, though local reports suggest it came from a ship at the port. Sochi has been hit repeatedly in recent weeks. On September 3, a Ukrainian naval drone struck the port, and Ukraine's Navy said it hit the offshore support vessel Nefrit. A fire at an oil depot near the city's airport followed on September 4 and reignited on September 7. The incident comes as commercial shipping in the western Black Sea is under attack. On Monday, the Turkish owned grain carrier Royad Mammadov sank off Romania after a drone strike, killing two crew. Early Tuesday, drones hit two more Turkish owned ships about 70 nautical miles off Bulgaria, the first attack on shipping in its exclusive economic zone. The Alfa Watan sank with its crew missing. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky blamed Russia for the Romania strike. Romania has not named a suspect, and Bulgaria's prime minister did not say who launched the drones. Both countries are NATO members, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said commercial ships and crews are being targeted.

President Trump signed an executive order Monday night temporarily allowing dyed diesel, normally restricted to off road use, in vehicles on public roads. The order also defers the federal excise tax on it through the end of 2026. Dyed diesel is the same fuel as regular diesel. The red dye marks it as exempt from the roughly 24 cents per gallon federal highway tax, plus state fuel taxes, so inspectors can spot highway use that hasn't been taxed. That exemption is why it costs less, and why using it on public roads has been illegal and subject to fines. The order waives those penalties and defers the federal tax without interest, and directs Treasury to explore eliminating the deferred bill. The move comes with diesel at record prices. The national average reached $5.97 per gallon the week of September 7, then peaked at $6.53 the week of September 21, the highest in EIA records going back to 1994. It eased to $6.38 the week of September 28, and AAA put it near $6.32 on Monday. AAA says prices are up more than 70% since the Iran war began.

Earlier today, French President Emmanuel Macron oversaw the first test of France’s M51.3 SLBM from the SSBN Le Vigilant. The test launch comes following the submarine’s Periodic Unavailability for Maintenance and Repair (IPER), similar to the U.S. Navy’s Extended Overhauls (EO). Notably, while it was likely pre-planned, the tests comes amidst heightened tensions between Europe and Russia, as Russian direct and hybrid actions against European nations continue to escalate, with little in the way of a decisive response from European powers.

According to Middle East Eye, citing Turkish officials, as a part of their commitment to the now activated Turkish-Saudi-Pakistani Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, Turkey will deploy troops, air defense systems, and aircraft to Saudi Arabia to defend against increasing attacks on the Gulf nation from the Houthis. Per the report, Turkey has forces, including technical teams, EW equipment, and aircraft defense systems, already in place since last year under a prior joint exercise agreement that allowed limited Turkish deployments to Saudi Arabia. The Turkish commitment to the Mecca Agreement expands the scale of Turkish deployments, now that the agreement has been activated. Turkish officials maintain that the deployments are purely defensive in nature.

David Rush, the former CIA officer arrested in May with gold bars in his home, has agreed to forfeit at least $194 million as part of a guilty plea to one count of wire fraud, CBS News reports. The forfeiture includes 298 gold bars, four luxury homes in Florida, two BMWs and 35 luxury watches. NBC News says investigators first reported 303 bars and revised the count to 298 Tuesday. Justice Department officials say Rush siphoned $194 million in government funds, NBC reports. Prosecutors say he invented fake classified programs to steer $145 million through a holding company to buy the Florida properties, and told contractors he was running a Top Secret project requiring gold deliveries. CBS reports that holding company still had about $38.6 million in its account. Court documents say he acted alone, per NBC. NBC also reports Rush admitted in his plea document that in late 2025 he disclosed details about a U.S. clandestine human source that could endanger the source's life. NBC says prosecutors stated at the hearing that the disclosure went to a foreign official, whose identity and country have not been reported. Rush, 49, faces up to 20 years and will be sentenced Jan. 28, NBC reports.
