Ethiopia's grade 12 national exam pass rate was 3.2% in year 2023. Here's why we're building Eagle Pathway.
When I was a university student, I worked as a tutor for a few different tutoring companies in Addis Ababa. Their model was always the same: a parent calls, and the company sends whichever tutor happened to apply first. No matching, no thought to whether that tutor actually fit the student's needs, subject, level, learning style. Just first come, first assigned.
The numbers show this isn't a small problem. Ethiopia's national exam pass rate has climbed from 3.2% in 2023 to 12.8% in 2026, real progress, but it also means that out of 550,210 students who sat the exam this year, only 70,544 passed. Nearly 480,000 students didn't get the outcome they worked toward. Some of that gap comes from under-resourced schools, some from students never getting matched with a tutor who actually fit how they learn. We built Eagle Pathway Education Services to close the second part.
We kept seeing the mismatch it caused, tutors struggling with students they weren't suited for, students not making progress with someone who wasn't the right fit. So we started Eagle Tutorials Services and then built a Telegram bot to help us do it faster.
The bot worked, right up until it didn't. Once we passed a few hundred students and tutors, keeping track of matches, schedules, and payments in chat threads stopped being manageable. There was no real record of who was paired with who, no way to see payment status at a glance, and no way to handle bookings without someone manually checking messages. We needed real accounts, a dashboard to manage the whole operation, and a proper way to accept payments securely.
So we rebuilt it from the ground up into Eagle Pathway, a full platform with a web admin dashboard, a mobile app live on Google Play, real-time bookings, and secure payments.
We're still solving the same problem we saw from the inside: the right tutor matters more than the first ava…
