🔥 We present one of the articles from the new issue of the journal "Mining Science and Technology" (No. 2, 2026)!
East Kazakhstan is a promising region, but its rugged mountainous terrain seriously complicates mineral exploration. Ground surveys are slow and costly, while crewed airborne surveys lack sufficient resolution.
The authors conducted a high-resolution UAV-based aeromagnetic survey at the Kargoba occurrence. What did this deliver compared with traditional methods? Instead of a conventional observation grid with a spacing of 50–100 m, they obtained a dense and uniform survey that can capture local anomalies of small amplitude at depths of up to 150 m.
The results? Six anomalous zones were delineated, one of which – with an amplitude of up to 500 nT – is associated with a granodiorite intrusion and hydrothermal alteration. These are precisely the criteria characteristic of porphyry copper-molybdenum deposits. Zone A‑2 is recommended as a priority target for further exploration.
