The United Arab Emirates has identified the terrorist co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 as Hamam al-Hammami. UAE officials said al-Hammami, an Omani national, used the plane’s emergency crash ax to attack Capt. Smit Machchhar, with the intent of killing him and then perpetrating a terrorist attack by crashing the aircraft. Al-Hammami had reportedly been denied employment with other regional airlines due to his radical jihadist views. It remains unclear why he was cleared to fly by flydubai, particularly on a flight to Israel.

Netanyahu calls out Britain’s anti-Israel turn Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Britain of acting “like a rogue state,” citing London’s moves against Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria and its support for Palestinian statehood. He also said Israeli intelligence helped foil a recent plot against a British airbase, a claim Britain had not publicly addressed at the time of publication. Israel’s warning is clear: appeasing Islamist pressure will not buy Europe security. Read more: https://www.israeltoday.co.il/read/like-a-rogue-state-netanyahu-turns-britains-insult-back-on-london/

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has invited Capt. Smit Machchhar to Israel and offered to bestow on him one of the Jewish state's greatest honors. “Captain, I want to invite you and my dear friend Prime Minister Narendra Modi to light a celebratory flame on our next Independence Day” in May 2027, Netanyahu told Machchhar when the two spoke by phone on Saturday.

Israeli citizen charged with spying for Iran Israeli prosecutors have charged a 25-year-old man from Baka al-Gharbiya with allegedly carrying out tasks for an Iranian handler in exchange for cryptocurrency. The charge sheet alleges he used AI tools, including ChatGPT, and passed information related to workplace security. The case is a reminder that Iran’s campaign against Israel relies not only on missiles and proxies, but also recruitment from within.

Europe pressures Israel while preparing for war As European governments rearm against a growing Russian threat, some are still focused on boycotting Israeli goods from Judea and Samaria. Yet Israel is becoming a crucial source of the missile defense, counter-drone systems and battlefield-tested technology Europe may soon need to protect its own cities. The balance of power is changing, and Europe would be wise to notice. Full analysis here: https://www.israeltoday.co.il/read/dear-europeans-take-care-of-your-own-defense-instead-of-our-luggage/

Death penalty for terror pilot? Sources in the UAE tell Israeli media that Hamam al-Hammami is expected to face the death penalty after attempting to hijack Flydubai Flight FZ1073. According to the Emirati sources cited by Israeli media outlets, al-Hammami intended to fly the plane, which was carrying 174 passengers, most of them Israelis, into a building in central Israel.

The IDF on Sunday struck and eliminated Saqr Nabil Musa Qaisi, a terrorist in Hamas’s elite Nukhba force. Qaisi infiltrated southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023 and took part in the massacre.  Alongside his terrorist activities, he also served as local director for the Turkish organization Deniz Feneri, which presents itself as a humanitarian aid organization but in practice maintains ties with senior figures in the Hamas leadership and with elements within the Turkish leadership. This constitutes yet another cynical exploitation of the humanitarian sphere to support terrorist activity, while advancing the activities of the Hamas terrorist organization under a humanitarian guise.

The IDF says troops in the southern Syria security zone shot and killed a man who approached their post overnight, ignored calls to stop and climbed an embankment. Reports differ on whether he was armed or attempting to cross into the position. Israel’s northern frontier remains active and dangerous, even when it is not dominating headlines.

The IDF is changing how it prepares for war after Oct. 7. Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir says the army will plan against enemy capability, not presumed intent, while keeping more forces ready, strengthening border communities and overhauling warning systems. Israel paid dearly for assuming Hamas was deterred. That assumption is now being discarded.

Britain’s Green Party has voted to define Zionism as racism and endorse a one-state program that would erase Israel as the national home of the Jewish people. Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar responded by barring party leader Zack Polanski from entering the country. The issue is not criticism of Israeli policy. It is the denial of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination.

New reporting indicates that the UAE shared the Flydubai crew list with Israel before the Tel Aviv-bound flight, including the Omani co-pilot who attacked the captain and tried to crash the aircraft. Israel reportedly raised no warning. The motive remains under investigation, but the failure to identify a known concern before takeoff demands serious answers.

A Nations League match between Ireland and Israel became another stage for political hostility. Irish players wore armbands for Palestinians, Israel wore armbands for the victims of Oct. 7, and Ireland’s stand-in captain declined to shake the hand of his Israeli counterpart, Dor Peretz.  Israel’s grief and security concerns are increasingly treated as something to be protested rather than understood.

More than a million people visited the Western Wall and its tunnels over Sukkot and Simchat Torah, according to Kikar HaShabbat. Around 10,000 gathered for post-holiday hakafot dances at the Kotel, including prayers of thanksgiving after the Flydubai terror incident.  While Israel’s enemies seek fear and division, Jerusalem’s heart continues to beat with faith, memory and life.

Israel’s election campaign is entering more dangerous territory. The Central Elections Committee has ordered Netanyahu to remove campaign videos featuring the IDF. Separately, Minister Amichai Eliyahu was filmed recording an election clip among military graves on Mount Herzl. Political arguments are inevitable. Using the army and Israel’s fallen as campaign props should not be.

We Israelis can really get on each other’s nerves.  Too loud, too curious, too direct, and always ready to interfere. We sometimes call it, with a touch of self-irony, our great Israeli Shechuna, our neighborhood.  But when things get serious, something remarkable happens: interference becomes responsibility, chutzpah becomes courage, and strangers become brothers and sisters within seconds.  Perhaps it is no coincidence that Shechuna – neighborhood – and Shechina – God’s presence – come from the same Hebrew root.  On the Flydubai flight, one could witness what that truly means. Defense Minister Katz vows to eliminate all 2,000 remaining Oct. 7 terrorists Some 4,000 Gazan terrorists who invaded Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, have been eliminated, but around 2,000 remain alive, Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed on Monday night. Katz said he and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had ordered the Israel Defense Forces to “pursue and eliminate all of them—from senior to low-ranking.” “This is what the murdered and the fallen have commanded us, and this is our duty as a people and as a state—and we will fulfill it,” the defense minister added.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog urged Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten to demand Hamas’s disarmament and called for renewed dialogue with The Hague, in an interview with the Dutch daily De Telegraaf published on Tuesday. “Why don’t I hear Prime Minister Jetten say, ‘We demand that Hamas disarm’?” Herzog asked. “Then a technocratic government can come in, and a new future for Gaza can begin.”
