❗️Stop prompting like a beginner. AI prompt matters more than the model. Here are 5 things you have to do to make every prompt better: 1. Give it real context, not just instructions: The biggest beginner mistake is asking AI to do a task with no background. The AI is guessing at what you actually want. Before the instruction, drop in the context. Who is this for. What is the situation. What does good look like. What do you not want. The model gets sharper the more it actually knows. 2. Show it an example of what good looks like: Telling AI to "write in my voice" almost never works. Pasting 2 or 3 examples of your actual writing works every time. Same with code, captions, emails, proposals. One good example beats a paragraph of instructions. Most people skip this step because it feels like effort. It is the highest leverage step in the whole process. 3. Tell it what not to do: Half of getting good output is telling the AI what to avoid. No em dashes. No corporate language. No bullet points unless asked. No filler intro. The reason your prompts produce generic output is the model is defaulting to its safest, most middle of the road version. Strip the defaults out by naming them. 4. Ask it to ask you questions first: Before you let it produce anything, ask it to clarify what it does not understand about the task. Most prompts fail because the AI is filling in blanks you did not realise it had. Two or three clarifying questions from the AI will save you 10 revisions later. 5. Iterate, do not start over: Beginners get a bad output, throw it away, and write a new prompt from scratch. Operators read the bad output, figure out what was missing or wrong, and adjust the prompt instead of the chat. The prompt is the asset. Build it, save it, reuse it. After a few rounds of refining one prompt, you will not need to write that kind of prompt from scratch ever again. What to do this week: Pick one task you do with AI regularly.
