 Youtube quietly pulled the plug on custom subtitle tracks (.ytt /.srv3) support, removing it from videos that had it without notice Summary   If you ever watched a YT video with subtitle format that are seemingly custom, with different color style, font style, custom positioning and even vertical text, or if you are active viewer of Tom Scott and Hololive, chances are you didn't realize it's a thing that Youtube has the support for. Yes, Youtube has advanced subtitle formatting that enabled videos like that to be on their platform. What's behind it is called SRV3, or commonly known through Youtube community as YTT, which is basically a very customized but sort of YT proprietary subtitle format. It's not really that documented, however it sees massive usage on certain channels and again, one of which is Hololive, VTuber group with videos reaching tens of millions, sometimes over a hundred million views. All officially translated Hololive videos (which is a lot) uses SRV3 subtitle format in order to achieve the subtitle style they need for their videos.   However, it seems that Google/ Youtube are preparing the Google guillotine once more. Some Youtube and Hololive community members discovered that the custom subtitle outright not appearing on the video they published despite the SRV3 file being successfully uploaded to the video they intend to put the SRV3 subtitle into. Google once made an update to support JSON3 without breaking the SRV3 upload for the custom subtitle feature, however even now, if you try to upload JSON3 files for custom subtitle, Youtube will reject the file for being unrecognized format. This silent deprecation threatens videos and creators that rely on this custom subtitle feature, one of which is VTuber community, which can sometimes even spend extra budget to have subtitling team that relies on SRV3.   Examples of how SRV3 subtitle look like can be viewed on the first quote.   Quotes Quote

Google/ Youtube has gobbled so many of them for the purpose of their team huffing it during development, and you can very much see the result here. There is literally, absolutely ZERO reason for a SUBTITLE FEATURE, which has been established for ages and not even hard to display in the first place, to be deprecated out of nowhere like this, especially when there's high ranking, high profile userbase of the feature in the first place. Hololive isn't some sort of moms and pops store and Tom Scott isn't an average random person on the side of the road either, and they both have massive community that would be pissed off from this silent update, ESPECIALLY HOLOLIVE I very much do not need to tell you what kind of outrage that will happen just from a lot of Hololive videos losing those subtitles. And honestly, who knows how that will bleed into the Bravia line for color grading monitors in the Sony Professional space. Only time will tell, and maybe this will bring down even possible professional displays down in cost.

 Canada Computers Site Allegedly Hit with Credit Card Skimmer Some users on Reddit are alleging that the Canada Computers checkout page was infected with keylogger malware that skims your credit card information during the checkout process.   Quotes Quote A Reddit user says a card skimmer was injected into the Canada Computers online store checkout flow. According to the post, a Magecart-style script that collected payment and billing details entered on the page and sent the data to an external domain. The user said the script was obfuscated and loaded from CodePen through a disguised Google Analytics tag.  Speculation that LTT Has Purchased A Private Jet The rumours that Linus Tech Tips has purchased a private jet appear to have some validity after a source online is linking LTT to a new private jet firm, Influence Air:   Quotes Quote Linus Media Group (LMG), the independent media giant behind Linus Tech Tips, has officially entered the world of private aviation.   With over 16.7 million subscribers and billions of views, Linus Sebastian has built one of the most influential tech publications in the world. Now, new information reveals that LMG has acquired a Dassault Falcon 900B. The private jet, registered as C-FXOO, is operating under a new entity named 'Influence Air.'     The clues that are linking this aircraft and the company to LTT is that per the public registry, the registration is registered to LMG's HQ in Surrey, BC, and the domain influenceair.ca is owned by Luke Lafreniere. Flight tracking shows the aircraft flying from Vancouver to Las Vegas and back at around the time of CES, and from Vancouver to New York and back at around the time Linus had a guest appearance on The Tonight Show.   For those aviation nerds out there, the specific aircraft purchased is a Dassault Falcon 900B, and is used, originally built in 1990. Listed range for the aircraft is about 7400km, with a capacity of 19 passengers.   From the available public registry, it was previously owned and operated by NovaJet, a Canadian charter jet company, had it's cabin refreshed in 2019, and was recently overhauled in 2025.    Whist Linus has hinted recently at a purchase like this in recent videos, this appears to be first bit of concrete evidence that Linus has indeed pulled the trigger on such a purchase. Meta advertises and even states in the WhatsApp help documents that "No one outside of the chat, not even WhatsApp, can read, listen to, or share them. This is because with end-to-end encryption, your messages are secured with a lock, and only the recipient and you have the special key needed to unlock and read them."  Valve faces £655m lawsuit in the UK     Summary  Valve will face a £655m lawsuit in the UK over alleged unfair prices on its store   Quotes Quote  The gaming giant is being accused of abusing its market dominance by imposing restrictive terms on game publishers and locking players into using Steam, the world's largest distribution platform for PC gaming.   The lawsuit - filed at the Competition Appeal Tribunal in London - alleges Valve "forces" game publishers to sign up to conditions which prevents them from selling their titles earlier or for less on rival platforms.   My thoughts  Could be interesting change up if this goes through.  Bazzite team claim GPD lied about "official Bazzite" for Win 5 handheld. Summary A GPD rep on Reddit made a post claiming there was an official adaptation of Bazzite coming for GPD Win5. They claimed in the same reddit thread that the Bazzite team were sent hardware.   Kyle Gospodnetich says they have no recent contact with GPD at all, and seemed concerned that GPD is directing users to a different Discord.  Ubiquiti is selling communication equipment to aid the Russian Invasion of Ukraine New reports from Hunter-brook suggests that Ubiquiti is knowingly selling equipment to the Russian military. These devices are being used for Kamikaze drone attacks, including against civilian targets.       Hunterbrook went undercover posing as Russian Military, and showed that Ubiquity suppliers are very willing to violate and bypass sanctions to get their products into Russian soldiers hands.  They allege that while Ubiquity is not technically the ones shipping to Russia themselves, they are aware that it is happening and have done nothing to prevent it.    In another interview with Preston Stewart, Hunter Brooks claims that Ubiquity sales went UP following the sanctions.      Shame to see such a beloved American company is involved in this. This is absolutely enough for me to boycott them from now on.

 Apple Sued by Reincubate Over Continuity Camera Patent Infringement (Full disclosure: I worked at Reincubate two years ago, though on a separate team and product to Camo.)   Summary   Figure 2 from Reincubate’s patent (US 11,924,258 B2) illustrates a cooperative video pipeline: a smartphone “capture device” (top right) with its camera and app (21) is connected via a local link (6) to a computer “control device” (bottom), which runs corresponding software (video conferencing program 62, video control program 61). By splitting tasks between the mobile device and host PC, the system aims to maximise video quality and efficiency .   London-based Reincubate Ltd, maker of the Camo webcam software, has filed a lawsuit against Apple in the U.S. District of New Jersey (Case No. 2:26-cv-00828). The suit alleges that Apple’s Continuity Camera feature in iOS/macOS unlawfully “copied the technology” behind Camo and infringes two of Reincubate’s U.S. patents. Those patents—US 11,924,258 B2 and US 12,335,323 B2 (see attached), both titled “Devices, systems, and methods for video processing”—describe techniques for capturing video on a mobile device and processing it in tandem on a host computer. In essence, Camo allows users to harness a smartphone’s high-end camera as a webcam by offloading and sharing the video processing tasks between the phone and the PC, yielding better image quality and performance than a traditional webcam.  Pornhub is now restricting access for UK users - will other sites follow suit? Summary When Pornhub announced last week that it would be restricting UK access, many were left wondering why. It was one of many sites forced to bring in robust age verification measures in July 2025 under the Online Safety Act. But the law has come under constant scrutiny, with critics pointing out it can be easily circumvented by using a virtual private network (VPN), which makes it appear you are accessing the internet from a different location. Pornhub's parent company Aylo has claimed the law has driven people to sites not following the law and increased "exposure to dangerous or illegal content". It seems to me, that in the crazy hype for this new technology common sense remains an afterthought. Many situations in the real world have to be interpreted with such common sense to get to the right conclusion and I doubt that LLMs will ever reach something like "common sense". A human would not refrain from slowing down their car by somebody running with a sign spelling "proceed" across a pedestrian crossing on which people are present. These AI models have never learned to ignore the sign in such a situation - and even when they have learned or have been thought, people will (in my opinion) always be able to trick these models with new situations they have never learned to handle.  It's the same story with picture recognition of dogs.
