a) Choose Indonesia, Singapore, or Jordan (or any other country of your choosing) and apply Shahid’s two-layer methodology. Try to separate its geopolitical fundamentals from its constructed capabilities. Is it a natural regional anchor, a constructed anchor, both, or neither? What would remain important if its main industries and alliances disappeared?
b) Shahid asserts that Gulf financing keeps Turkey stable but sufficiently vulnerable to cooperate. Explain how Turkey’s own leverage prevents this from becoming one-sided dependence. Also, explain how that distinguishes this arrangement from Western financial domination.
