PENDULUM DOWSING THE OTHER SIDE CHAT

Why do children, across generations and cultures, instinctively build little forts, hideaways, and secret spaces? “genetic memory” ?— as if children somehow remember the shelters their distant ancestors once depended on. It is a fascinating idea. Children naturally use imaginative play to explore the world around them. A blanket fort or a space hidden beneath a table can create a feeling of privacy, control, safety, and belonging. In a child's mind, an ordinary corner of a room can suddenly become a secret headquarters, a castle, or a shelter from the outside world. And perhaps this is where the ancient connection really lies. Humans have always sought places that provide boundaries and protection. We inherit broad survival tendencies — not memories of specific places or events. Our attraction to enclosed, comfortable spaces may therefore reflect a combination of instinct, development, imagination, and the environment in which we grow. So the childhood fort may not be an ancient memory replaying itself. But it may reveal something much older about us: the human desire to create a small place where the outside world feels a little farther away.
