An Open Letter to the Thailand Elite Visa Program from myself and a group of other Elite Visa holders that I have talked to today in the light of this news:
We are writing as concerned members of the Thailand Elite Visa program to raise an urgent issue with the newly announced 90-day background check policy — one that, as currently structured, creates a direct and exploitable blackmail risk for your members. Any individual who knows that a member holds an Elite Visa can now file a fabricated police report, trigger a "police inquiry" in the Thai system, and use the resulting threat of visa suspension as leverage to extort money or compliance. That is not an unintended side effect — it is a foreseeable consequence of this policy that must be addressed before it causes real harm.
Foreign residents in Thailand already navigate a well-documented imbalance in legal disputes, where complaints and proceedings frequently favor the Thai party regardless of the underlying facts. Police inquiries are known to persist in the system for years — sometimes indefinitely — even after full resolution. Attaching visa suspension to this reality turns an already uneven situation into something that can be deliberately and repeatedly exploited against Elite Visa holders, who are widely known to be financially invested in their status here.
We strongly urge the Thailand Elite Visa program to revisit and revise this policy before implementation. At the very minimum, protections must be in place to ensure that unresolved, disputed, or clearly frivolous inquiries cannot trigger a suspension of a member's visa status.
For reference, no other visa category in Thailand carries this requirement — including standard tourist and long-term resident visas. The program meant to represent a premium commitment to Thailand should not leave its members more exposed than the average visitor. We hope this concern is taken seriously and addressed transparently.

What's the policy change?
Anyone here knows if these days one (European passport) can renew 30-day tourist stamp for another 30 days while there? (In theory I can, but real in practice?)
Also, would e.g. week's absence and then return to TH work to get another 30/60 days these days? (One visa run, resulting in max 4 month stay)
Anyone with recent experiences here?

Yes you can. You just need to pay the fee and stand in line at the immigration center.

So you get deported if someone files a police report?

Someone didn't learn that Thai thinking is "Welcome to Thailand, your money is welcome, you are not"
Tomorrow morning I'm going for a bitcoin walk in Benjakitti Park. Last week walk was really nice thanks to all who joined. If you are interested you can find more info here:

SeanPeople are coming with this visa and fucking over Thai people. Are they just supposed to roll over and do nothing about that, like Europe?
1. Thailand has likely been getting pressure from the US and/or China to stop harboring people they don't like
2. The US and China (and to a lesser degree the EU) are trying to push a model of an "inescapable global system" where it's impossible to escape or avoid the rules. This is probably intended to terraform humanity to make it more suitable for large corporations and their business models.

I took bitcoin's price data history, extracted a stationary cyclic signal, and used trig to transform that variable amplitude series into a bounded signal, as shown in blue. Compare the result to an a priori reference sinusoid whose period is determined by the halving interval (yellow) and examine the phase relationship.
Early on, the blue price signal closely approximates a sinusoid, phase offset from the halving reference. This phase discrepancy increases between the second and third halvings. The covid shock just before the third halving finally pushes the price more than a quarter cycle out of phase.
After the third halving, the price signal trace undergoes a violent phase shift and wrenches back into alignment with the pictured halving reference sinusoid. The price signal got noisier after the third halving too, for which I don't offer an interpretation.
The chart starts where it does because 315,000 blocks of price history go into calculating the chart's every data point. 315,000 blocks is a little less than six years, and it varies, which is why I index the price by block height, not time. Measured by block height, the halving period is uniform.
The dataset starts in July 2010 with the first MtGox price reporting and concatenates with Bitstamp to present.
