🚨 Small retailers are pushing back against UPI MDR! 🇮🇳💸 Trade bodies warn that the new 0.4% MDR on UPI payments above ₹2,000 could push some merchants back toward cash — especially during the festive season. 👀 💰 MDR: 0.4% 🔝 Cap: ₹300 on transactions of ₹75,000+ 📅 Starts: October 15 👤 Consumers: No UPI charges 🏪 Retailers are also challenging the ₹1 lakh/month threshold for zero-MDR protection, saying it may be too low for many growing micro businesses. ⛽ Petrol pump dealers are seeking a blanket MDR exemption, arguing that even the ₹5 flat fee can add up because fuel purchases are often high-value and dealer margins are regulated. 📉 Industry groups fear higher payment costs could reduce UPI acceptance and weaken the digital trail created by cashless transactions. 🏛️ The Finance Ministry, however, says the concerns are misplaced and has ruled out a rollback, stressing that MDR is paid within the merchant ecosystem — not by consumers.
