WHEN THE LAW CALLS EVIL GOOD
There are moments when an ancient prophet sounds as though he is standing in our own generation.
Habakkuk looked around Judah and saw violence, injustice, moral confusion, and a society losing its bearings.
He cried:
“O LORD, how long shall I cry… even cry out unto thee of violence?”
Habakkuk 1:2
Then comes the haunting indictment:
“Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth.”
Habakkuk 1:4
Twenty-six centuries later, those words still burn.
On August 10, 2026, Massachusetts enacted legislation removing the previous specific statutory conditions governing abortion after 24 weeks and replacing them with language allowing an abortion to be performed by a physician based upon professional judgment.
Human government can declare something legally permissible.
It cannot make it morally righteous.
❖ ✦ MORAL INVERSION
Isaiah described the deeper problem:
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness.”

That is moral inversion.
Not merely committing evil.
Renaming it.
Calling darkness light does not transform darkness into light.
Changing a statute cannot overturn the moral authority of God.
Habakkuk saw what happens downstream:
“The law is slacked.”
Isaiah saw what happens upstream:
The categories themselves are reversed.
Jesus warned:
“Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
Matthew 24:12
Paul wrote:
“In the last days perilous times shall come.”
2 Timothy 3:1
Scripture never teaches that humanity naturally progresses toward righteousness apart from God.
Lawlessness has a trajectory.
❖ ✦ WHEN HEAVEN SEEMS SILENT
Habakkuk refuses both denial and despair.
He asks:
God, where are You?
Why does wickedness prosper?
Why does injustice advance?
Why does heaven sometimes seem silent?
God answers:
“I will work a work in your days, which ye will not believe, though it be told you.”
Habakkuk 1:5
God had not been sleeping.
He had not surrendered His throne.
He was already moving.
Habakkuk simply could not yet see the whole picture.
Neither can we.
❖ ✦ THE WATCHTOWER
So Habakkuk climbs the watchtower:
“I will stand upon my watch… and will watch to see what he will say unto me.”
Habakkuk 2:1
God answers:
“The vision is yet for an appointed time.”
Habakkuk 2:3
Then:
“Though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come.”
There is an appointed time.
For judgment.
For justice.
For the overthrow of wicked kingdoms.
What appears delayed from our perspective has not been forgotten in heaven.
Then comes one of Scripture’s great declarations:
“The just shall live by his faith.”
Habakkuk 2:4
Not by headlines.
Not by legislatures.
Not by courts.
Not by whether the culture applauds righteousness or mocks it.
By faith.
❖ ✦ THE COMING KINGDOM
Habakkuk suddenly opens the horizon far beyond Babylon:
“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”
Habakkuk 2:14

A Life Submitted to Christ Bear Fruit
Jezebel is one of the clearest biblical reminders that a title does not guarantee faithfulness to God.
In Revelation 2:20, Jesus refers to her as one who “calls herself a prophetess.” Yet instead of leading people to repentance, she led them into idolatry and sexual immorality. Her influence was impressive—but it was not godly.
This is why Scripture repeatedly warns us not to judge by appearances or positions alone.
Anyone can claim a title.
Anyone can build a platform.
Anyone can gain a following.
But only a life that submits to Christ bears the fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Don’t be easily impressed by charisma, popularity, eloquence, or titles. Test every teacher by the Word of God and examine the fruit their life produces.
Titles can be given. Fruit cannot be faked forever.
